Post-Murph Bliss
The Magic Of MidState CrossFit On Full Display
Yesterday, we completed our annual Memorial Day Murph—and what a day it was. 100 athletes walked through our doors and took on the Hero WOD with grit, heart, and community.
Two things stood out to me this year: the joy in the room and the clear evidence that our culture of self-responsibility, mentorship, and advocacy is thriving. Here’s just a glimpse of the Magic of MidState in action.
Coach Lori: Quiet Hero, Fierce Leader
For those who don’t know her story, Coach Lori is a gold-star leader. She’s a hero in her own right, leading recruits at the CHP Academy and running their fitness programs. Yesterday, she brought five first-timers to Murph—young men and women who chose to do something incredibly hard on a Monday holiday. Watching them push through was inspiring. Lori doesn’t just coach; she changes lives—in our gym, in her department, and across our community. She’s the absolute best.
First-Timers & Full Send Energy
Huge shoutout to Rachel, Deleena, Laura, Alison, Alicia, Harpreet, and Janette; all of whom crushed their first Murph! Champagne popped, mimosas clinked, and the girl gang brought the energy. Their smiles, confidence, and camaraderie lit up the space. I think back to Day One with some of them, early habit talks, simple choices, hesitant steps, to see them now, thriving, is unreal.
Special shoutout to Alison, who planned to do a half Murph, but halfway through said, “Nope, I’m finishing the whole thing.” Were there modifications? Absolutely. Their effort, grit, and heart was on full display, 100% effort. You all should be so proud of what you accomplished.
Advocacy in Action
A moment I won’t forget: running the final 800m with Kimberly Gibson, her first, my second. We ran side-by-side, and in between strides, we talked about how MidState members are showing up for each other outside the gym. At the store, in text threads, encouraging each other to get to class and stay consistent. That’s what advocacy looks like, people lifting each other up even when they’re not in workout gear. Kimberly, your words meant the world. Thank you.
Community is Everything
There were so many other moments that made yesterday special. Brandy finished her Goon 100 by wrapping it into her final 2 miles of Murph, how cool is that? Parents and kids completing the WOD side by side. Weight vests were passed around like badges of honor. And all that pain? It somehow looked like joy.
We are so blessed to have this gym and this community. Yesterday was a reminder of what we’re building here. Not just stronger athletes, but better humans.
