Response-Ability
Running Then Lifting - It is more than you think
Today’s workout is an example of how I believe CrossFit best expresses itself in the real world. We’re hitting 5 rounds of bike and run, followed later by higher-volume but lower-weight deadlifts. On paper, it looks like fitness. But in reality, this is preparation for life.
As a first responder, there are moments where hesitation can cost lives—you have to act, run, and move toward danger without delay. A lifeguard doesn’t just tread water—they crash through waves, reach the panicked, and haul them to safety. A firefighter doesn’t just fight the blaze—they carry bodies through smoke and heat, no matter how exhausted they are. None of it comes down to “how fast” or “how strong” you are in isolation—it’s about your ability to respond when it matters most.
That’s why at MidState CrossFit we talk about self-responsibility as one of our three pillars. Because built inside that word is power: the ability to respond. To your own needs, to your family’s needs, and to your community’s needs. You, the athletes of MSCF, are training to be more than just fit—you are becoming the ones your families can count on when things get hard. The strong shoulders others lean on. The steady hands in the storm.
And as we come up on another anniversary of 9/11, that truth weighs heavy. We remember the firefighters who climbed the towers, the officers who ran toward the chaos, the ordinary citizens who became heroes in a single moment. None of them knew what that day would bring, but all of them embodied what we strive for here: the readiness to act when called upon. So when you walk into today’s workout, know this—you’re not just biking, running, or deadlifting. You’re honoring that legacy. You’re proving to yourself that you can answer the call—whatever it may be.
