Eating with the seasons
The base of the crossfit pyramid is nutrition!
Know what to eat and when is all about maximizing deliciousness and impact. Eating what’s in season is a simple way to support performance and recovery. Seasonal fruits and vegetables are harvested closer to peak ripeness, which means they’re often more nutrient-dense and better tasting. Living in the Central Valley gives us access to an incredible variety of fresh produce that can directly support our training. This is my one of favorite part of living here!
Seasonal foods also align with what the body needs throughout the year. Summer produce like berries, melons, tomatoes, and cucumbers supports hydration, electrolyte balance, and recovery in the heat. Cooler months bring squash, sweet potatoes, citrus, and leafy greens, providing carbohydrates for energy along with vitamins and minerals that support immunity and overall health.
You don’t need to overhaul your diet, just be intentional, and use the cheatsheet below! Building meals around what’s in season adds variety, improves micronutrient intake, and helps fuel the work you’re putting in at the gym. Eat with the seasons, recover better, and train stronger.
